Paradiso: Behind the Stage

Today, our class had the rare and unforgettable opportunity to step behind the scenes of Paradiso Amsterdam—one of the most iconic music venues in the Netherlands. Paradiso stands in the heart of the city and has long been a sacred ground for music lovers, and for today, it also became our classroom.

We were welcomed by Kors, whose generosity and deep knowledge made the experience feel like a private tour through time. From the moment we walked in, we felt that we were not only entering a building, but a legacy. Originally built as a church, the venue's stained glass windows still peer down on the crowd, lending each performance an almost spiritual energy. And as Kors guided us through its history, it was easy to see why so many legendary artists have graced its stage.

We got to sit on the stage where Adele performed early in her career. And the magic didn’t stop there. Kors opened the door to one of Paradiso’s hidden gems: the dressing rooms. And not just any rooms—these were once the private backstage sanctuaries of Prince and The Rolling Stones. The walls might not talk, but they certainly hold secrets.

Beyond the stardust, we also dove into the technical backbone that makes Paradiso’s legendary performances possible. Kors shared with us the details of the venue’s unique acoustic challenges and triumphs, the evolution of its lighting systems, and how the space continues to adapt without losing its soul. It was a masterclass in how history and modernity can co-exist—an essential lesson for anyone interested in music, production, or cultural heritage.

This field trip wasn’t just about seeing a venue, it was an opportunity to connect with the living history of music and culture. Thank you, Kors, for opening the doors—and for opening our eyes to what it means to keep a place like Paradiso alive. This experience reminded us that music venues are not just buildings; they are vessels of emotion, creativity, and community. Behind every light, every sound check, and every performance is a dedicated team and a rich heritage that keeps the spirit of music alive.
